Research conducted by MCDO Krakus

July 2008

Cracow University of Economics, Packaging Department.

Topic : Research and assessment of commercial packaging made from plastic. (sold by MCDO Krakus)

The aim of research :

The research was conducted in order to show whether the tested product fulfills certain requirements, to determine quality of commercial bags available on the market and to compare them with bags produced by MCDO Kakus.

Examined product :

Bags made from HDPE foil and ecological bags made from  oxy-degradable material

Research included :

  • External examination of  packed material and packaging

  • Examination of mechanical features of packed material and packaging

  • Examination of barrier properties of packed material and packaging

  • Examination of chemical composition of packed material and packaging

  • Research was based on PN-EN 787:1998, PN-C-89258-1:1997 standards

The results :

After the examination we came to the conclusion that plastic bags are stronger than ecological bags

Because of the fact that ecological bags are novelty on the market, they have not been introduced by many companies yet.

The increasing popularity of ecological bags will probably contribute to the improvement of their quality and strength. It will also raise competition on the market.

September 2005

COBICO and packaging certification. Ecological certification.

The topic: The test for microbiological safety of packaging made from OPS plastic

The aim of that research was to indicate microbiological status with the number of airborne microbes and presence of E. coli bacterium, yeast and mold.

During that research packaging made from plastic OPS with the design created by MCDO Krakus and OPS packaging without the design were tested.

Method :

Research was conducted according to PN-91/A-79037 and PN-EN ISO 9308-1:2004

standards.

Tampon and filter methods were used.

Results :

On the surface of all tested products there were no E. coli bacteria

On the surface of packaging with the printed design there were more microbes than on packaging without the printed design.
