ECOLOGICAL PACKAGES!!!
A new look of biodegradable packaging is promoted by the European Union, therefore all dangerous for natural environment packaging will have to be eliminated in all countries of the EU.
A SHORT COPY OF THE EUROPEAN STANDARD 13432:2000 CONCERNING REQUIREMENTS NEEDED FOR COMPOSTING AND BIODEGRADATION OF PACKAGING:
The term ‘biodegradation’, ‘biodegradable materials’, ‘composting’ etc. are very common nowadays, unfortunately they are often overused and they are the source of disagreements. The European Standard 13432:2000 solves this problem by setting down requirements for material in order to be called ‘compostable’ and thanks to this organic wastes can be recycled. Defining the criteria of ‘being compostable’ is very significant because material which cannot be composted ( traditional materials, glass, materials contaminated with heavy metals etc.) can decrease the final quality of compost and make it uselessl for agriculture and that is why commercially unacceptable. This Standard is a model for manufacturers, public authorities, the management of enterprises and clients. The European Standard 13432:2000 was quoted in ‘Official Journal of the European Communities’ so it must be implemented in all membership countries to ensure conformity with European Directive 94/62 EC on packaging and packaging wastes. The European Standard 13432:2000 imposes requirements that mast be fulfilled :
Biodegradation ability is a transformation from composted materials into carbon dioxide measured with a traditional laboratory method : EN 14046 ( published also as ISO 14855 : biodegradation ability in controlled composting conditions).
The acceptable level amounts to 90% which is achieved in time no shorter than 6 months.
Disintegration - decomposition and the loss of distinction between components of finished compost ( the lack of visible contamination). It is measured with the test conducted on the pilot scale (EN 14045). Samples of tested material are composted with biodegradable wastes for three months. Next, compost is sifted through a 2 mm sieve. The total weight of the material which remains on the sieve should be lower than 10% of the original weight.
The total time of the beginning of decomposition of ecological packaging in proper temperature and humidity conditions is :
- For biodegradable packaging : from 45 to 60 days!!!!
- For oxi-biodegradable packaging : from 60 to 180 days!!!
- For paper packaging : a few months!!!!
Total time of decomposition of plastic packaging amounts to 400 years!!!
Companies and institutions creating pro-ecological ‘taste’ promote biodegradable packaging instead of plastic packaging. Thanks to cash from the European Union the company MCDO KRAKUS got knowledge about the future changes in packaging line of business and therefore we inform that you can order ecological packaging also with the individual logo ( which are calculated individually : quantity, with or without printed design):
BIODEGRADABLE AND OXO-BIODEGRADABLE CARRIER BAGS instead of the bags made from plastic LDPE, HDPE
BIODEGRADABLE AND OXO-BIODEGRADABLE BAGS instead of the bags made from plastic LDPE, HDPE.
BIODEGRADABLE PACKAGING instead of packaging made from plastic PP, OPS, EPS.
BIODEGRADABLE CUPS instead of cubs made from plastic PP, PS, EPS.
Packaging made from materials marked with the international certificate ‘COMPOSTABLE’ are really ecological!!!!
Using biodegradable packaging changes the image of the company making it environmentally friendly.
The substitution of plastic packaging for paper packaging will not save our natural environment because paper is made from wood!!!! And it increases the costs of packing products ( oxo-biodegradable packaging are cheaper than paper packaging !!!!).You can get more information on ‘packaging biodegradation ability from THE DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH SECTION of our company.
You can get more information on how to order biodegradable packaging from our PACKAGING CONSULTANTS.
